Finally we've got a regular tournament without the corruption of results files. Thank you Caos for fixing the server side scripts!

So the last challenge was executed regularly for 3 weeks and the results are in some cases surprising. KillerBees, now back among the veterans, moved a little the percentages and unfortunately RoboOlm and Teddybear suffered its return. Teddybear was recently updated but that was not enough to avoid the demotion. In change we get the promotion of a new jrobot called DarkSoldier. Let's see if its permanence among the veterans will be more durable.

The usual veterans confirmed their strongness: Tango, Starkle, IonStorm, Headhunter, DOOM, Stately, Bohan, KillerBees, Mouth, GulleFjun, FlameBall and, more surprising, Kraft.
All the other 13 jrobots were demoted: RoboOlm, Bizarro, Shrike, CounterStrike, Janeway, Bosozoku, Teddybear, Berserk, Jimbo, NumeroOtto, Ajax, Leech and Morpheus.

To substitute the 13 jrobots demoted, other 13 cadets are promoted instead, so the arena performs a real changing of the guard. They are: Touche, DirtyCoward, Shark, Stinger, Phalanx, Vampire, Ciaky, ELECTRON, MarukoV4, Snutteplutt, Dragon, DeadDuck and the new DarkSoldier.
Confirm themselves as cadets Edge, OneEyeW, MasterKormaz2, Cruel, Joobot4000, Platoon and CounterStrike2.

Comments

Again this tournament suffered of server side file corruption. Thanks to Caos that found a solution, the new scripts should be safe now. Please, notify any malfunction in future tournaments as soon as you discover them. The "Watch.exe" utility should work as usual after the last fixes of the scripts.

During the last tournament a real event happened: KillerBees was demoted to cadet! A real event since KillerBees was the most successful jrobots of the old guard, those strong jrobots before the IonStorm era. Of course, now it's back among the veterans.

No other event is worth considering except the confirm of Teddybear and RoboOlm among the veterans. Let's see if the return of good jrobots like KillerBees and Bizarro will change things a bit.

So among the veterans confirmed their strongness: Tango, Starkle, IonStorm, Headhunter, DOOM, Stately, Mouth, Bohan, RoboOlm, Janeway, CounterStrike, FlameBall, Shrike, GulleFjun, Berserk and Teddybear... wonderful 16 jrobots.
These ones were demoted to cadets instead: DeadDuck, Snutteplutt, ELECTRON, Dragon, DirtyCoward, MarukoV4, Vampire, Ciaky, Shark, Phalanx, Touche, Stinger and Platoon... not a so wondeful 13.

Among the cadets, these were promoted: KillerBees, Bizarro, Bosozoku, Jimbo, NumeroOtto, Kraft, Morpheus, Ajax and Leech.
Finally, MasterKormaz2, OneEyeW, CounterStrike2, Joobot4000, Cruel and Edge confirmed to be only cadets.

Congratulations to survivors! Requiem to the rest… October Challenge was as bloody as October Red Revolution. Due to Leonardo decision to forbid the entry of Cadet's fodder to Veteran's Arena the Veterans had to turn its weapons on themselves. Only three gladiators Tango, Starkle, IonStorm confirmed its dominance in all categories! Big success was obtained by upgraded Tango, which won ALL three categories. Its 90.67% score in single category is unbelievable high. It would be easily understand if Tango where facing Cadets but not a seasoned Veterans! Headhunter was strong as ever in Single and Double. In Team mode it has a curious habit to stay still and fight only for 9 seconds living immobilized captain of the team to its own demise soon after. My special congratulation goes to Bohan. After many attempts it produced very good Veteran robot, which can withstand many assaults. It fights very well in Single and Double barely missing the 50% threshold in this tournament but was quite comfortable in Team mode. Job well done! Team mode was a battle place from Hell indeed. This time only 7 best robots managed to stay above 25% mark. Tango 61.72%, IonStorm 53.25%, Starkle 32.47%, Mouth 32.20%, Bohan 28.66% , GulleFjun 27.49% and FlameBall 25.10% ! For the last four their good performance in this category was a ticket to stay in Veterans League. For other fine robots, formidable trio Tango, IonStorm and Starkle was too much to handle. So, with much sorrow we see old timers KillerBees, DOOM and Stately stepping down to give hard time newcomers in Cadets Leagues. We know that Bosozoku, Bizzaro, Kraft and Jimbo are not weaklings at all and are expected to come back. In Cadets League we see many familiar faces and robots with different skills. Huge number of matches gives assurance that results are not random here. The nice two new entries were very, very successful. Big warm welcome to RoboOlm (88.37% Single mode) and TeddyBear (78.10% Double mode). These are very promising new robots with good chances to be soon veterans. All the best to All.   Samuel

Now it's me again (leo). Fortunately for DOOM and Stately Samuel's comments were based on the unofficial results that continue running after the end of the tournament because of a server problem. Those jrobots succeded to survive for a few percentage points in single mode.

To summarize, among the veterans survived: GulleFjun, FlameBall, Mouth, Bohan, DOOM, Stately, Headhunter, IonStorm, Starkle and Tango.
The veterans degraded are: Jimbo, Bosozoku, Kraft, Bizarro and (I'm almost crying) KillerBees!
I think that KillerBees will clean the cadets league from those too weak jrobots that survive month after month only for a few percentage points, but KillerBees will be back soon to the veterans' league.

The cadets removed for too much weakness are: Slayer, tiger003 and ThisInMe. Instead the following ones were promoted to veterans: Touche, DirtyCoward, Platoon, Shark, Stinger, Phalanx, Ciaky, Vampire, Snutteplutt, Berserk, MarukoV4, Dragon, ELECTRON, TeddyBear, DeadDuck, Shrike, CounterStrike, Janeway and RoboOlm. All the others remained among the cadets.

A huge number of cadets were promoted but a few of them are going to remain among the veterans. As already underlined by Samuel, good possibilities are accessible to RoboOlm and TeddyBear. The latter is the first jrobot written by a girl that I'm aware of... a real event!

The cadets stop bouncing from one league to the other, in fact this month the number of matches in the Cadets' League is too low to accept the final results and I decided to promote no one.

Even the number of matches played by the veterans is low but acceptable and we can see unusual results favoured by the situation already outlined. IonStorm is the absolute winner in two categories (single and team) while Tango won in double mode.

The following jrobots survived among the veterans: IonStorm, Tango, Starkle, Headhunter, DOOM, Stately, Bohan, Mouth, KillerBees, Bizarro, GulleFjun, Bosozoku, FlameBall, Kraft and Jimbo.
These other jrobots were degraded instead: Morpheus, Leech, Shark, Stinger, Ciaky, Phalanx, Platoon, Touche, NumeroOtto, Dragon and DeadDuck.

Finally we got a serious number of matches played, at least in the Veterans' League. After a total amount of 5964 matches, the best three jrobots in Single and Double Category are Tango, Starkle and IonStorm in descending order. This means that Tango confirms its value, but at the same time Starkle prove to be stronger of IonStorm even if with a small margin. In Team Category instead, the best jrobots are IonStorm and Tango, so the stop of the triple victories of Tango was not an episode and the percentage gap is convincing. The list of placements is moving, very slow but it is moving. The only new jrobots recently promoted that survived in the Veterans' League is Bizarro, but it seems that this jrobot lacks of a tactic to recognize its friends in the arena, as the results in Double and Team Category testify... a real sin!

No interesting news from the Cadets' League were the same old jrobots bounce back and forth.

In conclusion, survived among the veterans: Tango, Starkle, IonStorm, Headhunter, Stately, DOOM, Bohan, Bizarro, KillerBees, Mouth, FlameBall, Bosozoku, GulleFjun, Kraft, Jimbo.
The degraded jrobots are: Joobot4000, Ajax, Vampire, Edge, MarukoV4, Snutteplutt, ELECTRON, Berserk, DirtyCoward, Shrike, CounterStrike, Janeway.

Finally, were promoted among the cadets: DeadDuck,Drago, Ciaky, Shark, Stinger, Phalanx, NumeroOtto, Touche, Morpheus, Platoon. All the others survived in the league.

Even this month the number of matches played was very low, especially in the Cadets' League. There is not much to say because all the strongest jrobots in the Veterans' League confirmed themselves as real veterans, while the large number of cadets promoted at the end of the past challenge was degraded again. To compensate this cadets' retreat, exactly the same number of cadets achieved the percentages required to be promoted, so we assist to an exchange between veterans and cadets that leaves the number of veterans unchanged.

To summarize, survived among the veterans: Tango, IonStorm, Starkle, Stately, Headhunter, Bohan, DOOM, KillerBees, Mouth, FlameBall, CounterStrike, GulleFjun and Janeway. The only thing worth noting is that IonStorm stopped the sequence of triple-victories of Tango, but it is only a result caused by the low number of matches, in fact there were no updates in their code.
The degraded jrobots are: Cruel, Touche, MasterKormaz2, Leech, CounterStrike2, Phalanx, Stinger, Platoon, Shark, OneEyeW, NumeroOtto, Dragon, Ciaky and DeadDuck.

Finally, were promoted among the cadets: Ajax, DirtyCoward, Berserk, Vampire, Joobot4000, Jimbo, Kraft, Edge, MarukoV4, Bosozoku, ELECTRON, Shrike, Bizarro, Snutteplutt.
Dipsi couldn't survive for its very low percentages, while Morpheus, ThisIsMe and Slayer remain cadets.

Let's see if the brand-new cadets ELECTRON, Shrike and Bizarro will perform well among the very competitive veterans.

After the disastrous contest of May, the June challenge was a regular one. Only the number of matches played by the cadets was too low, so we can't fully trust the results. Anyway a large number of the cadets was promoted and the next challenge is going to be very crowded in the Veterans' League.

Among the Veterans another surprising result was achieved: Even Starkle succeeded in the exploit of beating IonStorm, at least in Single Mode. We can see also that Bohan survived among the veterans even if its author was quite worried about this month's difficulty level. To survive will be easier during the next contest thanks to the fact that a lot of weak cadets were promoted.
The other results are more or less the usual ones. The survived jrobots are: Tango, Starkle, IonStorm, Headhunter, Stately, DOOM, Bohan, Mouth, KillerBees, FlameBall and GulleFjun. Degraded jrobots are: Bosozoku (goodbye to the last samurai), DirtyCoward, Kraft, Snutteplutt, Jimbo, Berserk, MarukoV4, Vampire.

In the Cadets' League the low number of matches made easier to be be removed or promoted: It was only a matter of luck. However, some bots haven't reached the requested number of matches to have their results accepted and the percentages in other modes were too low, so they were removed. Survived jrobots in the league are: ThisIsMe, Morpheus, Joobot4000, Ajax, Edge. Removed jrobots are: Slayer, Johnny5, Atmanbay, Derek1, Rotob, BigPimp, MasterKormaz, BigPimp2, BusDriver. If you can't find your cadet in these lists, it means that it was promoted to veteran: you'd better to improve it, if you don't want to see it back in the cadets too soon.

After the great contest of April, the May challenge suffered a lot of problems. CFXweb, the site that hosted JROBOTS since year 2000, was hacked at the beginning of the month just when the new contest had to start. For more than a week was not clear what really happened, but in the meantime the JROBOTS site migrated to SourceForge. Annoying bugs apart, the matches of the May challenge could run for two weeks. I must thank all the people who donated CPU time to the Cadets' League providing enough matches to get significative results. Unfortunately a bug in the server side scripts caused the creation of multiple copies of Bohan, the winner among the cadets. As someone suggested, I removed all the matches played by entries 15 and 16 (Bohan's clones), so some of the matches were lost. The bug is now fixed, so the new challenge is going to start regularly.

In Veterans' League, Tango achieved its second triple-victory. In the current arena, only IonStorm can stop it and I'm sure that one day or the other an anti-Tango IonStorm will appear. Other results are more or less the same of the past challenge. The jrobots that remain in the Veteran's League are, as usual, Tango, IonStorm, Starkle, Headhunter, Stately, DOOM, Mouth, KillerBees, FlameBall and GulleFjun. All the other were degraded to cadets. They are: DeadDuck, Dragon, Janeway, Touche, Ciaky, NumeroOtto, Shark, Platoon, CounterStrike*, Ajax, Leech and Morpheus.

On the cadets side, there are a lot of new jrobots, but some of them didn't reach the requested number of matches to have their results omologated. Finally Bohan succeeded in being promoted and got very interesting percentages. Let's see if it is going to survive among the veterans. Other promoted bots are: Bosozoku (the last samurai), Jimbo, Snutteplutt, MarukoV4, Vampire, Kraft (a brand new jrobot), Berserk and DirtyCoward. As I already said in a previous news, this month there are good news: We see another triple-victory in the Veterans' League, but this time the triple winner is not IonStorm... it's Tango! This means that the placing list has finally moved and that is not an impossible task, even if very hard, to create a jrobot that performs better than long aged veterans. Well, Tango is a long aged veteran too, but the invincibility of IonStorm was a well stated fact that now is broken in an evident way.

So three jrobots enter the legend of JROBOTS: after KillerBees and the long era of IonStorm, Tango is the last one to achieve a triple-victory. Now it has to climb the high number of IonStorm's consecutive triple-victories... another hard task indeed.

Unfortunately, Tango's exploit wasn't followed by a good performance of Bosozoku. The winner of the Last Samurai Prize didn't reach for a small gap the required 50% to survive among the veterans: The promising jrobot needs another turn among the cadets.

The results of the Veterans' League show the 91%-91%-63% Tango's triple-victory, but also a Starkle's second place in Single Mode at the expenses of IonStorm. The latter is a confirm of the value of Starkle that struggled with IonStorm for the first place in the March tournament.
The jrobots that remain in the Veteran's League are: FlameBall, GulleFjun, KillerBees, Mouth, DOOM, Stately, Headhunter, Tango, Starkle and IonStorm. They are the same survived jrobots of the last challenge.
The jrobots degraded are: Phalanx, MarukoV4, Berserk, Vampire, Jimbo, DirtyCoward, Snutteplutt and Bosozoku.

On the cadets side, there is plenty of new jrobots, some of them very promising. Let's see the real value of Morpheus, CounterStrike and Janeway in the Veteran's League.
The cadets promoted are: Morpheus, Leech, Touche, CounterStrike, CounterStrike2, Ajax, Shark, Platoon, NumeroOtto, Ciaky, Janeway, DeadDuck and Dragon.
Only ThisIsMe, Edge, Cruel and OneEyedW survived, while BohanShy, BohanBersek, bohan and Counter were removed for too low percentages. A comment for Counter: It seems that people find a great pleasure in uploading the jrobots of the SDK ;->
Finally, BohanRetry... was removed on request of its author, in fact he was a viction of the name-convention-bug of the upload CGI, so his Bohan (uppercase) was hidden by bohan (lowecase) and lost the occasion to reach the requested number of matches to be promoted. I'm sure that Bohan will succeed in the enterprise during the next challenge.

Finally the Last Samurai has got a name: Bosozoku! This is the official announce by Samuel, the mecenate of the JROBOTS players:

"The official winner of The Last Samurai competition is Lari Lampen. Congratulations!
His robot Bosozoku won with 10% margin over the rest of contenders in Single mode. Therefore he has won $30 CDN."

The results of the Veterans' League show a struggle among the first 3 jrobots. In Single mode IonStorn and Starkle fight for the first position: the final percentages say that the winner is IonStorm, but I think we should consider the real result a draw, in fact their relative distance corresponds only to 1 victory! In Double IonStorm got a more convincing victory, but Starkle achieved a better placing than Tango. Finally, in Team mode, IonStorm won again with the 70% of victories and then follows Tango with almost a 50%.
The jrobots that remain in the Veteran's League are: FlameBall, GulleFjun, KillerBees, Mouth, DOOM, Stately, Headhunter, Tango, Starkle and IonStorm.
The jrobots degraded are: Leech, Shark, Ajax, NumeroOtto, Ciaky, Touche, Dragon, DeadDuck and bohan.

The February tournament does not show very different results from the past. We must register another triple victory of IonStorm, another triple second place of Tango and a double third place of Starkle. The main difference is that FlameBall achieved a good third place in Team Mode replacing Starkle: FlameBall gained a promotion during the last challenge and it demostrates all its value now, at least in Team Mode.
This events apart, Headhunter, DOOM, Stately, KillerBees, Mouth and GulleFjun remained in the Veteran's League and confirmed the main cast of characters for the next challenge.
Some jrobots, promoted during the last challenge, were degraded again: Jimbo, Snutteplutt, Berserk, MarukoV4, Vampire, DirtyCoward, Phalanx and Platoon.

On the novices side, there are no relevant results. The low number of matches moved a little the placing list, but only NumeroOtto and Ajax were never promoted to veteran yet. I don't think they'll succeed in remaining there because they are too weak for the strong competitors of that league, but their authors could upload new surprising versions.
Ajax and NumeroOtto apart, the other promoted jrobots are: bohan, DeadDuck, Dragon, Ciaky, Shark, Touche and Leech.
Only ThisIsMe, Edge, Cruel and OneEyedW survived in the Cadets' League, while NumeroSette, Tusker and MichaelJackson were removed. The last two were the only new jrobots of this tournament. MichaelJackson was removed only because it was uploaded too late and it could not play any match. I think that if its author will upload it again during the next tournament, we can consider it as a "pure novice" that can compete for the prizes.
